- Mice are Nice
“Real mice aren’t really nice” was the first thought that came to mind when I started this week’s Guided Lesson for Mice are Nice, but the mice in this story were really nice, and we had fun this week with the book and all of the activities in the Guided Lesson.
The activities I want to highlight this week are the Math Activity for Day Five and the Music Activity for Day Six. For the Math Activity we talked about how most books have page numbers, and we looked inside Mice are Nice for page numbers and found that some pages did not have any. So we counted through and decided what number should be on each page, which lead us to count all the way up past 30. We then got out several other books in the house just to see how many pages they had and found one with over 400 pages in it! While we didn’t count all the way to 400, we did call Malachi’s big brother in to help us count to 100 with the pages, and Malachi was amazed when I told him that by the end of the year he would be able to count all the way to 100 all by himself.
Then with the Music Activity for Day Six we sang the nursery rhyme “Three Blind Mice,” and Malachi thought it was so funny to learn the part where they all ran after the farmer’s wife who cut off their tails with a carving knife. I just love seeing my little guy learning so much and having so much fun doing it!
