I Want to be a Teacher
This week we learned all about what teachers do, and it was so fun to talk about teachers at school and teachers at home, Pre-K teachers, music teachers, art teachers, math teachers, and even teachers at universities and beyond. My little Malachi couldn’t believe that I was a teacher at a “regular school”, as he calls it, before he was born, and he decided he likes it that I’m his teacher at home. (Good thing.)
The activity I want to highlight this week is the Art Activity for Day 2 that is outlined in the Take Home Reading Kit for Family Literacy. In this activity we opened the book to the page where the teacher is teaching an art class and talked about what people do during an art class (draw, paint, work with clay,…). Then we searched our house to find art supplies, gathered them all together, and worked on our own masterpieces. Malachi drew a great big frog because he loves frogs right now, and we talked about what he might learn about art from an art teacher when he’s bigger.
This book is also included in the “People in our Community” Thematic Unit for Pre-K, which we’re renting as well so that we have plenty of activities and books for every single day’s homeschool time. Right now our school schedule is pretty loose as we’re just learning how to sit down and do our schoolwork, but we’ll get there!
